'm dave clark. >> good morning. i'm tori campbell. it's tuesday, january 8th. >>> we begin with continuing coverage of the near disaster on the san francisco bay that we first covered on ktvu channel 2 news at noon yesterday. this morning, the u.s. coast guard will meet with the pilot of the oil tanker that sideswiped a tower of the bay bridge. ktvu's alex savidge joins us live with new details about this bar pilot's past. good morning, alex. >> reporter: good morning. a coast guard spokesperson tells me there will be an update on this investigation coming after the team is briefed at 8:00 this morning. we do know that investigators will be sitting down later today and talking with the pilot at the controls of this 750-foot oil tanker when it struck one of the bay bridge towers. he's identified as george close with eight years experience. he did pass an alcohol test yesterday and the results of a drug test may come back today. yesterday's accident yesterday after the vessel was heading back to sea. there was heavy fog in the area at the time. that cut visibility on the bay to just about a

clark. >> i'm tori campbell. >>> police are investigating a violent night in san francisco's potrero hill neighborhood. paul chambers is live with information on injuries after a shooting and a stabbing just a block apart. paul? >> reporter: good morning, tori. now, police released the -- the scene here. take a look at some video here. police say the first time scene happened about 1:40 this morning. shots were fired in the potrero hill neighborhood. police say a 53-year-old man was exiting vehicle when he was struck by a bullet in his foot. he was taken to the hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries. almost two hours later and after officers left the first scene, they were called back, this time responding to a stab. in that situation, police say the victim was stabbed while inside a home. he then walked outside where someone called 911. he was taken to an area hospital with three stab wounds to the chest. he's expected to survive. police say as of right now, they do not believe the two crimes are connected and they do not have any information about motives or suspects in either

into what led an oil tanker to hit the base of the bay bridge continues. good afternoon. i'm tori campbell. this morning, the pilot's whose tanker struck -- who struck the bay bridge is interviewed by the coast guard. cal has more >> reporter: the ship is still out here in the san francisco bay. the 750-tanker hit one of the support towers of the bay bridge yesterday around 11:00 in foggy conditions. authorities say no oil was leak. the ship had just unloaded at a martinez refinery. the coast guard officials told us this morning a little bit more about its investigation. >> we're gonna continue to interview important members of the crew which includes the pilot and we'll also continue to interview members -- coast guard members who responded to the scene and find out what -- try to get more clues as to what happened. >> reporter: ktvu has learned the pilot passed an alcohol test yesterday. that pilot, george kleess, has eight years of experience but has had some problems in the past. now according to state records, kleess ran aground brieffully a sacramento river on august 27th of 2009. th
